Labiaplasty (Labia Reduction)

Labiaplasty Description & Benefits

Labiaplasty (labia reduction & beautification) are becoming more popular as social acceptance of these cosmetic and reconstructive procedures continues toward mainstream. Labia surgery, which usually involves labia reduction is becoming as common today as other cosmetic procedures, including tummy tucks and breast augmentation. New advancements and techniques in labiaplasty typically lessen scarring, pain, recovery time and show excellent results. Labiaplasty is for women who have a problem with large labia, asymmetric labia or related female genital issues. This may cause severe embarrassment with a sexual partner or loss of self-esteem, and in some cases pain and discomfort. Labiaplasty permits the reduction of large labia (labia minora and labia majora) to reduce their outward appearance and correct misshapenness or irregularities.

Vaginoplasty & Labiaplasty Procedure Steps

The labiaplasty procedure removes excess tissue from the labia majora and minora. This procedure reduces the length of the tissue as well as making uneven labia equal in size. Labiaplasty is usually a short outpatient procedure done under local anesthesia, and this procedure has a relatively short recovery time.

Vaginoplasty & Labiaplasty Recovery

After Labiaplasty surgery, a patient can walk within a few days and can return to sexual activity in four to six weeks. It is important to remember that labiaplasty surgery cannot cure sexual dysfunction or increase desire. This surgery may not be covered by insurance, and complications such as bleeding or scarring are possible. It depends greatly on the procedure, but on average most patients are back to work within 3 to 7 days. If complications arise, additional time away from work may be required.
